Career Opportunities

Career Development

There are several initiatives active, which support women in their career. In several Helmholtz programs women and men can apply for a management academy or for women-only mentoring programs. Also, there are the support programs Anna Logica, Pro Exzellenzia, the Expertinnen-Beratungsnetz and the UHH Career Center. Mentoring, coaching and soft skill training for PhD students is being organized by PHGS for both members of DESY and the UHH. There is also DoIT, a campus-wide career initiative by PhD students. If you want to suggest topics for a career workshop, please contact Michael Grefe (michael.grefe@uni-hamburg.de, +49-40-8998-2151) or the student council (sfb676-studentcouncil@desy.de).

Competence Initiative

The SFB Competence Initiative aims at actively supporting young researchers in understanding and developing the necessary skills and competences to build up a successful career in academia as well as in industry.

One series of workshops is dedicated to female postdocs, doctoral candidates and master students from all MIN/STEM research fields. In four tailor-made workshops the participants are invited to develop and strengthen key skills that will be very useful for their present and future professional career. The trainers are carefully selected experts with many years of experience in teaching scientists.

Another series of workshops offers professional information and training by an experienced career coach, with a special focus on the particular needs of scientists. Topics include self-presentation, self-marketing and interview training, adapted to the individual situation of the participants. The coaching will be in English.

  • Career Coaching: 26 June – 10 July 2013
