Student Council
The Student Council is the official representation of the PhD students within the graduate school (IRTG - Integrated Research Training Group). It consists of six students from the different SFB research projects (A,B, and C) and is elected every year by a general assembly of all IRTG members.
Some of the duties/tasks of the Student Council are:

to foster communication and exchange among IRTG students, both professional and informal;

to serve as a contact point for student concerns that require discussion within the IRTG;

to represent the student body in IRTG activities and organizational matters within the SFB;

the evaluation of IRTG teaching activities;

the organization of “PhD Days”, a day-long “mini-conference” and social events for and by IRTG students
Travel Funds
The SFB-676 IRTG Student Council has is able to fund research travels of PhD students of both the SFB-676 IRTG and LEXI. The money will be used to support the students to attend interesting educational activities. The purpose of this support is to broaden the student’s scientific horizon in a direction which is not topic of her/his research. We have set up the following priorities regarding the extra funding:
- The programme should have a connection to SFB-676- and LEXI-related research.
- The number of supported students shall be maximized.
- Educational activities with higher benefit to cost ratio will be preferred.

PhD Days
The SFB 676 PhD-days is a short workshop aimed to stimulate discussion and collaboration between the students of the different projects. Besides lecture courses given by highly experienced speakers, PhD students will get the opportunity to present and discuss their own work related to the SFB and LEXI research topics.

All kinds of social activities are announced via the mailing list theory-fellows-students@desy.de, which you can subscribe to here.

In case you have any problems which are related to your Ph.D. or activities within the IRTG, e.g., searching for feasible supervisors, questions concering application procedures and Ph.D. regulations, or even personal problems with your supervisor, the student council can act as contact person and mediator.
