Attosecond pulses (1 as=10−18 s) can be generated by focusing intense laser pulses in gases. These ultra-short pulses open up new opportunities to explore matter at unprecedented time scale. The Advanced Study Group of the University of Hamburg (UHH-ASG) at CFEL pursues a program on the ultrafast dynamics of the interaction of matter with laser and x-ray pulses.
The program of the Attosecond Research and Science Group focuses on ultrafast processes in the XUV wavelength regime with extreme time resolution and a strong focus on surface science and nano structures.
